Volunteering

If you are a new member you may have already received an introductory letter or email from our Membership Secretary John Coombes and a leaflet highlighting the work of volunteers. Everything we do is voluntary and we would love to welcome as many new volunteers as possible. The greater our presence the greater our chance of getting the CAMRA messages across. All the information you need is in the leaflet, how we specifically go about it is as follows:

Thursday socialsA Thursday social at The Swan in Flitwick - An informal gathering of members every week who visit pubs that serve real ale. Definitely the best way to meet the local crew. Why not come along, introduce yourself and make new friends! At the same time we do cast a critical eye over both the pub and the quality of beer served. It's a great way to visit the pubs in the area that you wouldn't normally think of going to as we try to cover the whole of the branch. Click here to see where we are visiting over the next few weeks. There are car pools running most weeks from Luton, Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard. If you would like to join please contact Socials Secretary Steve Pullan. We only have one informal rule - the driver doesn't have to buy any drinks!

Beer festivalsCasks ready to be racked before the Luton Beer Festival 2012 - We all love going to beer festivals and sampling what's on offer? CAMRA members don't just volunteer to serve behind the bar, we also use our knowledge of real ale to help uncertain punters choose a beer they will like. In the South Bedfordshire region our main event is the Luton Beer and Cider Festival held every February, usually at the end of the half term week. It's not just about bar work. Learn how a beer festival is organised on the set up days, how the casks are prepared and the beer assessed for quality. There are a few perks in volunteering at beer festivals but that's for you to find out! There are plenty of other beer festivals in the branch and in the surrounding branches throughout the year, keep checking the Other Beer Festivals page for more details.

Organised TripsGroup photo from the Kissingate brewery trip in March 2012 - Several times a year brewery tours are organised for CAMRA members to meet the brewer and sample some of their products. Great fun and highly informative. These trips are open to all CAMRA members who live in the branch. If there's space we also allow members who don't live in the area. Frequently we stop at a few pubs on the way back that we wouldn't normally get the chance to visit outside the area. Click here to see where we are going in the coming months and to contact our trips organiser Paul Sharp for more information or to make a booking.

What are you waiting for?

If you want to get involved, don't be shy, get in touch, meet us at a social or brewery tour and see how it goes from there. It can take up as much or as little of your time as you choose. Please contact any of the committee members for more information.
